Once reduced to thirteen families, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation has rebuilt its community and identity in Northern California’s Capay Valley. The new Community Center stands as a focal point of this revival—modern in design yet deeply rooted in tribal culture and agrarian tradition. Low, grounded structures encircle a central meadow, evoking ancient gathering spaces, while wood and local stone recall traditional craftsmanship. A woven timber roof in the meeting hall nods to the historic Wintun meetinghouse. Sustainable features and indigenous landscaping ensure that the design respects the land, fostering a strong connection between the tribe’s past and future.
