Turlock Library Civic hub evolves with its community

Turlock Library

Built in 1968 for a population of 36,000, Turlock’s library had become a vital hub for the city and surrounding rural communities but struggled to meet the needs of over 70,000 residents. Expanded and modernized, the design preserves the original building while adding spaces for kids, teens, and adults, flexible programming rooms, and tech-friendly features like plug-ins and laptop checkouts. Anchored by a courtyard and gardens that seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor learning, the 16,530-square-foot library includes study rooms, a maker’s space, and quiet areas, reinforcing its role as a community center for education, creativity, and connection.
