In one of the nation’s most unaffordable rental markets, Cabrillo College is delivering its first on-campus housing in just 36 months. Supported by SB 169 funding and an innovative public-private partnership with UC Santa Cruz and a development team, the project offers a replicable model for community colleges statewide. Apartment-style units, childcare, wellness, and essential support services create a 24/7 campus neighborhood, connected to nature and welcoming to all students—including those who are working, caregiving, or first-generation. The result is fast, affordable, student-centered housing that affirms access and belonging—advocating for well-designed student housing as a right, not a luxury.
