A client once used this phrase to describe WRNS Studio, and it stuck. It reflects the diversity of our interests and the lenses through which we study architecture.
Firm organization
WRNS Studio distributes authority and decentralizes decision-making across an ever-evolving ownership team that leads groups of 5-10, avoiding bureaucracy and bottlenecks. An ownership transition plan creates temporary stewards of our firm partners, creating opportunities for future leaders. This approach attracts self-determined people who are encouraged to use their voices, explore their interests, and take personal responsibility for the studio’s success.
JUST label
Committed to advancing equity within our studio and the broader industry, WRNS Studio has been an International Living Futures Institute (ILFI) JUST Label firm since 2017. This “nutrition label” for socially just and equitable organizations fosters improvement and transparency about diversity, equity, safety, worker, and local benefit.
WRNS U
WRNS U is an umbrella term for WRNS Studio’s various employee-led events, meetings, and focus areas, forming the backbone of our vibrant culture and community. Led by employees looking to connect, share knowledge, and make resources accessible and fun, WRNS U includes initiatives like skillSHARE, an after hours social for sharing tips for improving work product; Computation Group, for scripting, coding, and parametric modeling; and Observation, offering project tours and field trips.
Field study
WRNS Studio supports a staff scholarship program that offers annual funding for travel, study, research, and projects that promote inspiration and critical thinking in design and architecture. Employees share their findings and experiences through studio presentations, social media postings, and online essays to encourage discussion.
